2nd Batch of Hummus

Breaking news: I made my second batch of hummus today — from scratch! I don’t know why I waited so long to try this. Hummus and pita chips have been one of my favorite go-to snacks for a very long time, and, of course, it has always been store-bought. Sure, I’m not going to make pita chips from scratch — yet! 😉 — but hummus is so easy, and yet it never occurred to me that I could make it myself.

The funny part is that I’ve always had most ingredients in the house — chickpeas, olive oil, ground cumin, lemon juice, garlic, etc. The only thing I didn’t have until now was tahini.

Anyway, the first batch was ok. This second batch, though, is really good as in I-cannot-stop-eating-this kind of good. The best part is that I know exactly what’s in the hummus. There are no preservatives and no weird things that control texture or consistency and stuff that I can barely pronounce.

And hummus is fun and quick to make. It has few ingredients, and it’s difficult to mess up. My first batch gave me enough confidence to start experimenting a bit with the ingredients for my second batch. I added some sun-dried tomatoes — the kind that comes in a jar with oil — and a bit more garlic and lemon juice, which improved both flavor and texture (a bit smoother and creamier).

I will experiment a bit more with the next batch. But first I need to get more pita chips! Hm … maybe I should try to make those as well 🤔😊
