February 2020

I thought I’d try something new to get my “writing gears” back in working order again. I’m going to write some posts that outline a few things that happened during a given month. Or maybe I’ll just highlight a few notes or thoughts from my journal.

The items may not be in any particular order and may not even be connected other than that they occurred during the same month. Well, let’s see how this goes.

Here is my February:

  • Amazing breakfast at a proper diner in Timonium, MD, outside of Baltimore — I can’t even remember the last time I had such a great diner experience. What did I order? What I always get when I find a new diner: corned beef hash with scrambled eggs, toast with butter on the side, and coffee. Proper diner food. If they can get this right, then the chances are good that other items on their menu taste great as well.
  • Train show — I went to the Great Scale Model Train and Railroad Collectors Show (GSMT). This was the first train show in many years, and it was really fun to totally geek out for a few hours. I went mostly because there was also going to be Lego train display — yes, I’m a hardcore Lego geek! And yes, it was a great display, and I may — in a weak moment! — have committed myself to contribute a corner module for an upcoming exhibit …. hm! 🤔
  • Found new favorite hotel in Minneapolis — I traveled to Minneapolis on yet another work trip. This time, though, I decided to stay at the Emery Hotel. Love it! Great design. Great restaurant and bar. Great location.
  • Got lost in SkyWay so many times — I love the Minneapolis SkyWay, especially in Winter. But I always get lost when I try to get to the office from the hotel. You’d think I’d know my way around by now … nope! Fortunately, there are lots of nice city dwellers who are willing to help a lost stranger find his way back. 🙂
  • Got really sick for over a week! — I usually don’t get sick often, but when I do, the gods really make it count! This time they went out of their way to make it count. Of course, given how much I travel, it’s bound to happen every so often. 🤒
  • Started Lego project! — Yes, apparently I did commit to join this group of crazy AFOLers and contribute module for some upcoming exhibit … yes, I know, it’s insane! 🙄

So, that was February — great diner, trains, Lego, awesome hotel, lost in SkyWay, and sick as a dog! I wonder what March will bring?
